Fall-Spring 2019/2020. Escape Room activities across psychology courses to promote content integration in first-year undergraduate students.

Research shows that gamification environments such as activities where students solve connected puzzles/riddles (Escape Rooms), increase engagement, motivation, and overall learning in the classroom. However, ER practices commonly involve solving enigmas that instructors design to test course contents. Here, 157 first-year undergraduates have to both find the solution to pre-designed games and create the riddles for a big ER that a group of peers resolves. The teaching aim was to improve content integration and integration awareness of four psychology courses. Results show the impact of giving students an agent role to integrate materials while creating meaningful challenges for their peers.

Due to COVID-19, some resources were taken from BreakoutEDU. We would like to thank their generosity.
