Welcome to LING 447
Description
What is being bilingual? In this course we will try to give an answer to this question in every aspect of the term: sociological, linguistic and cognitive, and we will learn the tools and methods that science has been using to complete the puzzle.
Therefore, in this course, the student is expected to acquire: 1) a multidisciplinary knowledge on the topic, and 2) skills to study the phenomenon of bilingualism.
Objectives
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Recognize the basic problems in bilingualism and in the study of bilingualism
- Discuss the empirical methods that psycholinguists use to study bilingualism
- Plan and design a research in the topic of bilingualism
- Recognize better strategies to learn a second language
- Test strategies to learn a second language
Prerequisites
- Introduction to research methods. The contents of this course are based on scientific evidence, and therefore some knowledge about research methods is desirable.
