Wildfire risk is a shared problem, and the underlying goal is to improve the wildfire preparedness of our community.

Important Points
Some insurers (e.g., CA Fair Plan) offer discounts for Firewise communities.
Residents should have their insurance broker submit the Firewise certificate (see below) for a discount.
For CA Fair Plan, the discount is 10% of the fire portion of the insurance premium. CA Fair Plan is lagging in processing Firewise Certificates for homeowners; some discounts have been applied for WCC residents (e.g., one policy resulted in a ~8.45% discount of the total amount).
Note - CA Fair Plan should theoretically be able to independently verify that a property address resides within the West Camino Cielo Firewise boundary; however, at least a few claims were initially rejected and only accepted upon resubmission with the boundary map (see Firewise documents below). Acceptance should eventually happen and be retroactive to the initial submission date.
There is a community obligation to "track volunteer hours and money invested in fuel reduction, home hardening, and wildfire preparedness activities."
Participation in helping our WCC community to meet our Firewise Three year plan goals is optional.
It would be helpful if people could track hours & dollars spent (e.g., tracking data from Nov '25 through Nov '26).
Please submit the information directly to the Firesafe Council through the "Individual Risk Reduction Tracking" form here: https://sbfiresafecouncil.org/maintaining-your-communitys-firewise-status/
Note - there is no need to estimate the amount of vegetation for the SBFSC Chipping Program.
