Teaching Activity
I have extensive experience in teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses, with a focus on public health, nutrition, and epidemiology. My involvement includes committee participation, lecturing, curriculum design, and course development. Below are some highlights of my teaching activities
1. Public Health Nutrition (2023 - Present) As the director of this course offered by the Department of Community Health Sciences at Aga Khan University, Pakistan, I developed the curriculum for the Masters of Science in Public Health students. This course covers contemporary issues in public health nutrition, population-level interventions, and policy development in nutrition.
2. Critical Appraisal and Protocol Development (2011-2016, 2021, 2023) As the course director, I am responsible for teaching, grading assignments, and leading all course-related activities for Masters of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics students. This intensive course equips students with the skills to develop their thesis proposals.
3. Nutrition and NCD Epidemiology (2018 - Present) I developed and direct this course offered by the Department of Community Health Sciences. Taught to Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics students, it addresses methodological issues related to assessing the nutritional status of various populations and covers non-communicable diseases (NCDs) significant to public health in the region.
4. Nutrition Epidemiology (2007-2017) I developed and directed this course for Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics students. It focused on methodological issues in assessing nutritional status across populations.
5. Non-Communicable Disease Epidemiology (2012-2017) As the course director, I developed, taught, and graded this course, which was offered to Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics students. It covered
non-communicable diseases of public health significance, particularly for Pakistan.
6. Advanced Epidemiology (2017) I developed and taught this three-credit-hour course at the School of Public Health, Jinnah Sindh Medical College.
7. Journal Clubs (2007-2011) I directed various terms of this course, similar to Seminars in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, adjusting student expectations based on the term. It was taught to students in terms 2, 3, and 5.
8. Human Nutrition Research Methods (2004) At McGill University, Canada, I served as a teaching assistant for this course at the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition.
9. Nutrition in Developing Countries (2004) Also at McGill University, I was a teaching assistant for this course, focusing on nutrition challenges in developing countries.
10. Public Health Nutrition (1996-1998) As the course director at Baqai Medical University, Pakistan, I developed and taught this graduate-level course for Master of Public Health students, covering key nutrition issues relevant to Pakistan.
11. Hospital Dietetics & Nutritional Epidemiology (1995-1999) I lectured on these two courses offered by the Faculty of Women Education at Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, Pakistan, through a distance education program with bi-weekly face-to-face sessions and a concluding one-week workshop.
1. Nutrition (2007 - Present) At Aga Khan University, Pakistan, I have taught various undergraduate courses on nutrition from multiple perspectives.
2. Community Medicine (1995-1999) At Baqai Medical University, Pakistan, I was responsible for teaching the community nutrition component to first, second, and fourth-year professional students.
3. Clinical Nutrition I (2003) At McGill University, Canada, I was a teaching assistant for this course at the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition, focusing on clinical nutrition.

Throughout my academic career, I have developed and conducted various short courses aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of professionals in public health, nutrition, and epidemiology. Below are some of the key courses I have developed and facilitated:
New Courses Developed and Offered:
1. How to Access, Interpret, and Report Health Literature to the General Public (AIR) In 2023, I developed this course for media professionals in Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, and Peshawar. The course, funded by a research grant, was created in collaboration with media houses and journalism schools. It was offered by the Department of Community Health Sciences' Continuing Education Programs (CHS-CEP).
2. Manuscript Writing Workshop in Maternal and Child Health for EMRO Region In 2022, I developed and directed this course at Aga Khan University, funded by a grant. It was designed for participants involved in the WHO RHR hub housed in CHS, focusing on manuscript writing skills. Offered by CHS-CEP.
3. Grant Writing for Mid-Level Faculty In 2021, I developed and coordinated this course in collaboration with the University of Alabama, Birmingham, USA. The course, offered by CHS-CEP, was designed to enhance grant writing skills among mid-level faculty at Aga Khan University.
4. Manuscript Writing Workshop Between 2017 and 2023, I directed multiple iterations of this workshop at Aga Khan University. The format evolved from four-day and five-day workshops to an eight half-day e-version and a ten half-day version. This popular course focused on teaching manuscript writing skills in public health. 5. Developing NCD Prevention and Management Action Program for Pakistan In 2019 and 2020, I conducted two three-day workshops in Karachi and Islamabad, funded by WHO. The course aimed to develop action programs for non-communicable disease prevention and management. Offered by CHS-CEP.
6. Designing Research Projects in Vitamin D Deficiency In 2019, I collaborated with the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Sciences to offer this course focused on designing research projects related to Vitamin D deficiency. Offered by CHS-CEP.
7. Adult Clinical Nutrition Care Workshop Between 2012 and 2016, I revamped the former PGME nutrition offering and developed two workshops focusing on inpatient nutrition care. Offered by CME.
8. Lifestyle Management of Obesity I conducted workshops on this topic at the 17th National Health Sciences Research Symposium in February 2014.
9. Designing Clinical Trials in Non-Communicable Diseases This workshop was offered at the 17th National Health Sciences Research Symposium in February 2014.
10. Fundamentals of Nutrition Epidemiology In 2014, I developed and conducted this five-day course funded by the National Institute of Health, aimed at individuals with a background in nutrition.
11. Management of Obesity through Lifestyle Factors I developed and conducted this course for DCPE at Aga Khan University in May 2010 and December 2012, and a follow-up course in September 2010.
12. Vitamin A Supplementation Program Training for Health Managers In 2007 and 2008, I conducted this three-day program in collaboration with the Micronutrient Initiative Canada, focusing on Vitamin A supplementation.

1. Burden of NCDs in Pakistan In June 2023, I facilitated this course as part of a workshop organized by CITRIC Health Science Center, in collaboration with the Department of Continuing Professional Educational Services at Aga Khan University.
2. Bolstering Research in Nutritional Epidemiology at Khyber Medical University In 2019, I facilitated this course to enhance research capabilities in nutritional epidemiology.
3. Manuscript Writing In November 2017, I facilitated this course offered by CHS-CEP at Aga Khan University.
4. Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Surveillance Course Between 2010 and 2012, I facilitated this course offered by CHS-CEP at Aga Khan University.

1. Smokeless Tobacco and Betel Nut Use In 2019, I conducted a CME session on this serious public health issue in Pakistan.
2. Weight Management by Family Physicians in Pakistan In 2015, I conducted a session for the College of Family Medicine Pakistan on this topic.
3. Why Me - A Bridge for Lifelong Learning In 2015, I conducted a CME session at Aga Khan University on lifelong learning.
