In April 2023, I was involved in this physically intense, abstract, and ensemble-driven retelling of Kuo Pao Kun's The Silly Little Girl and The Funny Old Tree. Directed by no other than the original Silly Little Girl, Dr. Ang Gey Pin, it was a poignant look at the concept of loss. Told through the eyes of a schoolgirl who admires a tall, old tree in her school grounds, the play follows the bond between the two till the tree's tragic demise at the hands of a construction team.
The process for this show was grueling and taxing in the best possible way. It trained us to be hyper-aware of our physicality and our movement - sharpening skills that could be put to use in future projects. It gave me exposure to a much-revered Singaporean play, and being directed by the person who played the title role in the premiere production added a whole new insight into the work, and what it meant to creatively retell a story that has been told many times.

We incoporated a blend of languages, music, and artforms into this work. I am playing the Tree while performing a Kathakali-inspired dance, while the 'girl' (rear) enquires about life.
A large group of construction crews tries to stop the girl (unseen) from getting into harm's way.
I am personifying the dance of a bee in this scene. Each member of the cast devised their own dance. Mine happened to involve a fair bit of jumping.
