This production of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's tragicomical play The Visit was staged in November 2022. I played the principal role of the Teacher for this production, and enjoyed the wealth of dramatic wit and comedy the role offered. I also played the small role of Townsfolk D or Helmsberger, to much comic relief.
I was particularly interersted by the Teacher's morality and resistance to the appeal of money offered by Claire Zachanassian despite living in a bankrupt, decrepit town. When all of his comrades fell to money and prepared to kill Alfred Ill, the Teacher was the last stronghold in upholding the morally right and just values of humanity - a fight that I enjoyed portraying. This role needed me to play piano and sing, a challenge which I heartily enjoyed, and living in the universe of this play was a joy and an insight into the staging of Brecht-inspired productions.

Caught off-guard and without a choir to wlecome the millionaire, the Teacher sings for Claire himself.
Helmsberger, blissfully overjoyed at the offer of one million to his town. splurges on expensive Cognac, all on credit that he doesn't have.
The Teacher attempts to make a deal with Claire to buy the towns decrepit industrial buildings to restart the economy.
The Teacher is dumbfounded to learn that Ill has accepted his fate, and plans on surrendering his life.
The Townsfolk subdue the Teacher from spilling the grim news to reporters.
The Teacher makes one last plea to stop the town from accepting the million in exchange for Ill's life.
