In the pretty village of Marillac Le Franc just 5 minutes from the town of La Rochefoucauld our converted barn lies on the road to St Sornin, just metres from the village centre with its bar, church, Marie and Salle de Fete and friendly community.
We bought the barn in 2006 and have gradually converted it into an airy, warm and comfortable home with the help of local French artisans using local materials and skills.

In the Barn Conversion section you can see how we have managed the transformation which includes a new roof using old tiles to retain the character, mostly new timbers but keeping the old exposed main beams, all new electrical system, all new plumbing, new double glazed windows and doors, underfloor heating.
The Barn measures approximately 8 metres wide at one end and 9.9 metres the other and is about 16.5 metres long on the outside, approximately because when it was built in 1884 they were not too concerned with right angles. With thick stone walls the internal dimensions average 7.6 by 14.9metres.
Inside the usable accommodation on two floors totals about 200 sq metres.
Downstairs there is a lounge, kitchen, dining area, bedroom, bathroom, WC, and utility area. The whole downstairs is tiled and each main room has underfloor heating with separate thermostats.
Upstairs there is a mezzanine and walk way, three bedrooms one of which is en-suite, the other two are joined by a space ready to be made into a ‘jack and jill’ bathroom if needed.
This arrangement allows for ground floor living for those unable to manage stairs.
