Business ADA Accessibility Compliance Assignment --------------------------------------------------------------
For this assignment, my group and I visited an In-N-Out in South Jordan. In class we discussed ADA requirements and creating a space that is disability-friendly. We analyzed the property for adherence to these guidelines and interviewed the staff on their training with assisting customers with different needs. We were quite pleased with this location! Staff were knowledgeable about helping customers with wheelchairs and other needs, and the space was accommodating for various mobility needs and easy to navigate. Below is our letter to In-N-Out and our review of the location.
Dear In-N-Out,
We visited the In-N-Out at Jordan Landing in Salt Lake City, UT, recently to complete an assignment that included learning about the American with Disabilities Act(ADA) regarding accessibility for individuals with disabilities. We sincerely appreciate In -N- Out’s approval to come and the time spent with us. We were able to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of accessibility and accessibility education for members of our community through this visit.
We are quite pleased with In-N-Out and how effectively the company complies with ADA regulations. We were impressed by the following:
Properly sized and marked accessible parking, with enough handicapped parking spots and ramps to the sidewalk.
The register at hip height, easily reachable for someone in a wheelchair
Grab bars and a large handicap-accessible toilet
Sink that accommodates a wheelchair
Several wheelchair-accessible tables
Good lighting and space
Employees trained to help individuals with various disabilities
Exit signs at floor level
Clean flooring with minimal tripping hazards
We found a few areas where accessibility could be improved:
Electric ADA door openers for the bathrooms and entry doors, especially since the entry doors are so heavy and employees are not always able to assist
Addition of a second ramp exit space for handicap parking
Once again, we would like to express our gratitude for allowing us access for this assignment, especially during these interesting times. The staff members were accommodating and provided a positive and pleasant experience. Due to the high level of ADA compliance, we would recommend this establishment. Thank you!
Parking and the bathrooms were great! There was a lot of space that would be easily navigable with mobility aides. The employees were super helpful and amiable.
