Work package 2

Development and implementation of SMART health COVID-19

We will use the information from work package 1 together with our experience in developing SMARThealth cardiovascular system to design a mobile device–based Clinical Decision Support Software (CDSS) for COVID-19 risk management. Then, we will incorporate SMARTHealth COVID-19 with the online referral system (e-Puskesmas) that is currently active in the public health centres (Puskesmas) in Kabupaten Malang, East Java. Preliminary work has been conducted on the design of the SMARTHealth COVID-19 apps.

The SMARTHealth COVID-19 apps will record the data on demographic, symptoms, history of travelling, contact history with patients with confirmed COVID-19, information on preexisting conditions such as hypertension, heart diseases, and diabetes, as well as body temperature. The apps will be made available to non-medically trained health workers (kader kesehatan desa/Posyandu). We will train the kaders to collect and to enter the data using the SMARTHealth COVID-19 apps. Information on how to advice possible COVID-19 patients to self-isolate, seek medical treatment and to trace their contacts will be made available in the apps. The role of the kaders will be essential as the frontline workers in the early detection of COVID-19 patients and the information provided in the SMARTHealth Covid system will be very useful for the health professionals (nurses and doctors in Puskesmas) who will take further action in the diagnosis, treatment, isolation and contact tracing of suspected cases.
