For this project we were asked to pick a new emerging technology, research the topic, then make a powerpoint presentation about our topic. We also had to present the project to the class. I chose 3D food printing.
3D food printing is a technology that enables the production of three-dimensional food items that are made using various components and a specialized 3D printer. This process involves transforming edible materials into a printable format and then assembling them to form the desired product. The printer used for 3D food printing is similar to regular 3D printers but with adaptations to accommodate food ingredients. It generally has a syringe or extruder that adds the food material layer by layer, based on a planned design. This design is either created with specialized software or through scanning an existing object.
The benefits of 3D food printing are numerous, from providing the option to customize and personalize food items to allowing for precise control over ingredients and portion sizes. Furthermore, it can create intricate and complex designs that would be difficult or take a long time to achieve by hand. Additionally, this technology has the potential to address issues such as food waste and nutritional deficiencies, by using alternative ingredients or adding specific nutrients to the food that is printed.
I used the power point skills I learned to create my 3D food printing power point. I learned what the advantages and disadvantages of 3D food printing are such as less food waste, and better nutritional control. A disadvantage is this is a new emerging technology and more development needs to be done. Also the cost of having a 3D food printer is expensive. I enjoyed this final project.
