History

Hölger H. F. Olsen opened his meat market on Main St. sometime in the early 1900's. He operated the business for many years, including his time as Richmond Mayor from 1928 - 1934. Holger not only sold and butchered meat but also grocery supplies. He operated the business until his death in 1945.

Sometime later, the I.G.A. Super Market was owned and operated by the Andrus family: Dean, Diane, Allan, and Mildred. They had the store for many years. Allan remembered his time in the store as a child being not enjoyable on "Wednesdays. That's when we had to stock the shelves."1 The store sold not only food and other groceries, but was also a sporting goods.2

The business was closed sometime in the 1960s and the building was demolished.
