Title: Science in the City: Culturally Relevant STEM Education (Race and Education)

Author: Bryan A. Brown

I completed this book study with a co-worker of mine who teachers English Language Arts at the same campus as myself. We meet a few times to discuss chapters of the book during the summer of 2020 (prior to the new school year starting). The book does a really good job of highlighting the difficulty minority students have in STEM related classes specifically because of the lack of culturally relevant curriculum. I really enjoyed reading the book and analyzing it with an ELA teacher and fellow co-worker who is super passionate about culturally relevant education. We are both planning on implementing some of the strategies the book lays out and also informing the rest of the staff about this as well.
