The first year of the TLIIST program is almost coming to a close and I can honestly say that I have learned so much through this program. The biggest accomplishment I have made thus far is becoming a better leader. The leadership training that we have received has been monumental in my success of becoming a better leader. I used to be afraid to speak up and let others know my thoughts and opinions. After realizing that teacher leaders are just as important as other leaders on campus, I knew that I had to speak up more in order to become a more effective teacher leader. The leadership training we received from Dr. Bob Wimpelberg was extremely informative and my favorite thing that I learned from this was how to conduct results based meetings. My meetings are now so much more efficient and effective since I am able to create an agenda and make action items clear. I have received compliments for being decisive and concise while running my meetings and those who attend my meetings appreciate that I do not waste their time. I think that the leadership training I have receieved through TLIIST helped to contribute to my being Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020. Overall, I feel that the TLIIST program has helped me grow so much and I am looking forward to what the next 4 years will bring.

Not only was I voted teacher of the year at my campus for the 2019-2020 school year, I was also designated Secondary Teacher of the Year for all of HISD for the 2019-2020 school year. Dr. Grenita Lathan showed up to my house to share the good news. I am forever grateful for TLIIST for helping me become part of the teacher I am today and for offering me skills and lessons that I can provide to my students and colleagues.
