Mission and Philosophy

The mission of the RHAM Middle and High School Interscholastic Athletics Program is to compliment and support the philosophical principles that guide academics within our school. We strive to graduate students who are productive citizens that positively impact their communities. A model interscholastic athletic program achieves this goal by providing a healthful and enriching experience that will foster physical, social, and emotional growth of students through comprehensive teaching practices by coaches, the athletic director, medical personnel, and various other stakeholders.

As an educationally sound athletics program, we promote participation, stress sportsmanship, and appropriately value the overarching concepts of competition. This important part of the educational process inherently stimulates the development of qualities that we desire our graduates to acquire. The characteristics and values that we strive for coaches to teach and students to achieve through educational athletics include:

· Self-Confidence and Esteem

· Self-Improvement

· Sportsmanship

· Leadership Initiative

· Strong Human Relations

· Problem Solving

· Independence

· Humility

· Work Ethic

· Perseverance and Resilience

· Reliability

· Respect

· Responsibility

· High Level Fitness and Nutrition

· Sound Decision Making Skills

· Resourcefulness

· Goal-Oriented

Student-athletes who achieve these qualities will strive to hold both themselves and teammates to standards of excellence and will subsequently perform at a high level both academically and athletically. Furthermore, a successful educational athletics program that builds the platform for student-athletes to promote their ethics of hard-work, pride, and positivity to their peers, inherently impacts the school culture in a meaningful, appropriate, and effective manner.
