The goal of this project was to increase familiarity with and practice the use of the Bandsaw and Drill Press, in preparation for future assignments. The goal was to replicate a PMI block out of a provided piece of Walnut wood. Shown here is the Result, as well as pictures of the construction process. As a note, the picture of my use of the bandsaw is from a slightly earlier project, yet one with the same general goal, which is the reason I have included it here.
A bandsaw box is a specific design that uses the unique flexibility of the bandsaw to form a box out of a single piece of wood, or several pieces of wood that have been glued together. By making strategic cuts with the grain of the wood, it is possible to create a high-quality finished item, with nearly indiscernible marks from the cutting and construction process.
Shows everything from the initial cuts with the miter saw to the engraving and completed box.
