I chose nursing because of my passion for serving others.
This passion has always been a part of me but it wasn’t until my mother was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in 2016 that I realized it could lead to something greater. As she went through chemotherapy I began spending my time taking care of her. She would tell me stories of the different nurses who would take care of her at the hospital and I even had the chance to meet them when I visited my mom. This experience sparked my interest in nursing as watching one of the most important people in my life struggle every day was difficult. Still, it also imbued me with a level of empathy for patients and their families that I had never experienced before. I discovered that nursing is the perfect opportunity to help people just like my mother. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, watching the nurses and doctors on the news working countless hours without sleep inspires me. Seeing those people with an unrelenting courageous drive and dedication to fight for the lives of complete strangers only affirmed my desire to pursue a career in nursing.
Today, thanks to those nurses and doctors, my mother has been cancer free since 2017 and I am grateful every day she's still here with me. My family will forever be in debt to the men and women who cared for my mother and cannot wait for the day she can see me become a nurse so I too can provide care for families just like mine.
