The name 'Revols Beehive' was born out of the words 'revolution', 'evolve', 'love', & the idea that (like a bee) we flit from garden to garden, teaching and equipping people with the knowledge of growing their own food. As the world around us evolves, the need for nutritious food never does. Join the revolution.
Fifteen years ago, the need to stretch our family's food budget became a north-facing, fully shaded (pretty expensive and ridiculous) container garden.
That failed garden springboarded us into research, action, and service. Currently, we work with local community and school gardens as well as home gardeners, guiding them to success. We understand that each garden is as unique as the grower. With individual needs in mind, we create a comprehensive package for clients, condensing years of information into an easy-to-follow plan.
Whether you are new to gardening or hoping for some helpful hints, we provide digestible one-on-one knowledge.
We gained certification through Denver Urban Gardens as a Master Community Gardener in the Fall of 2015. The program emphasizes communication and organic gardening with required 30 hours of volunteer teaching and consulting at D.U.G. gardens. We continue to represent D.U.G. each spring, teaching the free companion class to their 'Grow A Garden' seeds and transplants program.
Over four growing seasons, we provided support to the Asian Pacific Development Center as their garden leader for the Whole Health and Garden therapy program and their inaugural Community Garden (2017-2018) as a volunteer for Denver Urban Gardens. At the same time, we have supported and continue to support the Cherry Creek Challenge School Learning Garden with hands-on group activities for families and students in classrooms, including the Girl Scout troops. (Check out their website here, created by Challenge students.)
In January 2019, we received a certificate of Master Gardener Mastery, with high marks in the courses. Concurrently enrolled in Beginning Market Farmers certification program, a coordinated effort between CSU Extension and Denver Botanic Gardens,I received certification upon completion in the fall of 2019.
As Garden Specialist for the City of Aurora, we design and implement the gardens of Expo and Moorhead Recreation Centers to support the Cooking Program piece of the municipal recreation programs. As garden to table is really the heart of the RevoLSBeehive mission, it is an honor to be able to create a place of beauty within the parks as well as grow food for citizens.
Working as a Horticulture Specialist within the Aurora Water-Wise Garden (Xeriscape Garden) for the Aurora Water Conservation Department has given me a new appreciation for landscaping as well as building mastery in native and xeric plants.
In the Fall of 2017, we earned the Cottage Foods License from the CSU Extension Office and Colorado Department of Health. This course is designed to teach food safety and what is marketable under Colorado state Cottage Foods Act. You don't need a Cottage Foods License to give food away, but if you are selling it, you'd better have one.
This certification allows me to sell pickles, eggs, breads, cookies, jams, jellies, pies, candies, dried fruits, granola, grains, mixes, & infused oils. It doesn't allow for meat, salsa, raw or uncooked doughs, custards, pickled peppers or anything that may spoil without refrigeration.
We offer various baked goods, confections, and fresh & preserved yields from our own garden. Bread making became important to me about five years ago, after reading a popular brand's ingredient list. We haven't looked back. Our love of baking extends to fruit breads: pumpkin, zucchini, banana and experimenting with gluten free treats.
