Students will be dismissed directly from their seats, in a linear and orderly fashion from the classroom into the traffic flow, adhering to social distancing. Regardless of the next class for a particular student, all students will exit to the right of the classroom, walking the length of the hallway until arriving at the stairwell or their next class.
If all students have completed exiting the class, then students will enter the classroom from the left side of the doorway, filling seats from back to front in the new room.
Students going up or down stairs will adhere to the distance guidelines, and merge onto the new floor’s traffic pattern at that point.
Traffic lanes in each section of the building will be marked utilizing signs and arrows, so as to support students in adhering to the safe distancing guidelines.
A minimum distance of 3 feet apart should be maintained at all times (except for meal times or times when a mask cannot be worn).
Physical education classes should only be held outside when feasible, and only while practicing physical distancing, whenever possible. All participants should wash their hands after physical education classes. The gymnasium offers sufficient space for inside physical education activities, and the safe distancing guidelines will continue to be adhered to.
Music classes will employ PPE and social distancing to the greatest possible extent, so as to mitigate the projection of breath into the air.
Special Education classes will continue to provide special education and related services under the same safety guidelines as a regular education classroom. For such instances where the nature of the programming does not allow for that, specific consideration will be given as to how necessary programming can be provided in a safe manner.
Science classes will utilize virtual labs and resources to the greatest extent possible. In the event that such would compromise the learning too much, students will not share that particular piece of equipment without it being properly cleaned prior to sharing with the next student.
Classrooms will have seating capacity that facilitates a minimum 3 feet of physical distance between each student, so as to allow for safe distancing during instruction and independent work times.
Mask Usage Recovery will be permissible when proper social distancing guidelines can still be met. This will not necessarily be a break from instruction or learning, but rather will be a time for students to safely clip or pocket their mask for a set time, sanitize hands before and after contact with the mask, and continue working. Where feasible, a mask usage recovery station will be located in each classroom, where students can be given permission to individually clip or pocket a mask and work while maintaining safe distancing practices.
Special attention was given into reducing student movement throughout the building to reduce student contact with others.
When students exit classrooms a minimum of 3 to 6 feet apart should be maintained at all times while wearing masks/face coverings.
Students will travel on the right side of the hallway when moving through hallways.
Directional signs will be placed on floors to guide the flow of student and staff foot traffic.
During our "Yellow" Back to School Plan, specialists such as music, art, PE, Health, and Computer Science Discoveries will rotate to classrooms to reduce student movement within Caribou Community School.
Water and beverage fountains in schools will be restricted to the bottle dispensing portion of the fountain, in order to prevent cross contamination.
Upon return to the green phase, the cafeteria will be utilized for meal times. It will be cleaned following each group’s use of the area. Maintaining social distancing and traffic patterns will be a requirement in the cafeteria.
Restroom traffic will be monitored to ensure that students do not exceed the capacity of the space, and are not lingering. We will enforce proper hand washing as directed by the CDC. Cleaning supplies should be readily available in common areas through utilization of spill stations or similar type stations.
Cleanliness stations throughout the building will have materials for covering hazardous body fluids until proper cleaning and sanitization can be performed. This will include hand sanitizer stations, which will be easily accessible and located throughout school, as well as in each classroom.
When students leave a classroom, they will be instructed to wash hands or perform hand hygiene with hand sanitizer before going to the next location. Students will also be reminded to limit the touching of anything not essential.
In the instance hand washing is not easily achieved, hand sanitizer should be used by all students and personnel.
Visual aids (tape on floor, directional stickers, etc.) will be used as reminders to persons in building.
Doors to common spaces remain open to avoid multiple people touching handles.
During yellow phase, locker rooms and locker use will be prohibited. Upon return to green phase, locker use will be discouraged unless proper social distancing can be managed. Lockers should only be used by one person. No shared lockers will be allowed. Students will be given permission, upon request, from teachers to access lockers as needed during the school day.
