The project requires the following:
An Approval to Construct Transmission Lines from the Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB);
A Section 401 Water Quality Certificate (WQC) from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP)
A Determination of No Take or a Conservation and Management Permit from the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program (NHESP)
Consultation is also required with tThe Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC)
A Determination of Public Necessity and Convenience from the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU)
Construction and access permits, and potentially approval under the Watershed Protection Act, from the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)
An access permit from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT)
*The recent public comments to MEPA were required because the project requires an Environmental Impact Report (EIR)
When National Grid does its improvements to widen their powerline corridor, it should:
Cut only as much as is necessary to protect the powerlines
Avoid encroaching on vulnerable wetlands
Take proactive measures to protect priority habitat and endangered species
Preserve and protect existing roads and recreational trails
