Ethics refer to the individual's moral behavior, standards and their decision making.
In a digital world, ethics are the moral behavior of an individual and their decision making when that are using digital media. Individuals should adhere to the principles of using people's work and also be taught to respect people's work. There should be lessons provided about the copyright laws and the ethical principles so that individuals would know how to use digital media in a way that discourages the use of other people's work in order to develop a positive citizenship towards a personal digital identity.
Copyright refers to a legal right granted to the original creator of a specific work. The work can be in a form of "books, print articles, song, ads, TV shows, video games, movies" (Frank Gallagher & Kat Stewart, 2011, p. 113).
In order to prevent individuals from using other people's work that they find on the media platforms, individuals must be educated about the consequences that they could face if they use other people's work without acknowledging the original creator of that work. This can also be prevented by encouraging individuals to create their own original work on the internet and protect them. In this way they will be responsible users of media.
