Coastguard Vessels

This 63m carbon fibre missile boat was designed in New Zealand for the Indonesian Navy by LOMOcean Design. Carbon fibre is inherently stealthy as it absorbs most radar frequencies instead o bouncing them back. Extensive modelling has led the US Navy to adopt a trimaran configuration for the multibillion dollar joint littoral ship being built by Austal catamarans in Tasmania. So there is nothing theoretically odd about this design.

KRI Klemang was built by North Sea Boats in Britain. Strangely, it was destroyed by fire while undergoing refit at dock four weeks after being launched. This letter explains some of the reasons.

New Zealand isn't only capable of remarkable designs in new materials it also manufactures some of the best fast ship jetboat engines in the world. Hamilton jet produces some very large jet designs for the fast ferry and crew boat market.

New Zealand may not be capable of building large ships economically but it is capable of building new multi-purpose designs suitable for coastguard and oil industry operations around the world.
