The Office of Residential Housing emphasizes continuous growth and open communication, with feedback being central to the RA experience. Feedback is delivered through formal evaluations, one-on-one meetings, surveys, and informal conversations. While it may inform employment decisions, its main purpose is to support RA development and departmental effectiveness.
Direct & Ongoing Feedback
RAs are expected to give and receive feedback professionally, particularly during regular one-on-one meetings with supervisors, which are also safe spaces for voicing concerns. If an RA is uncomfortable speaking directly with their supervisor, they may reach out to the next level of supervision. Feedback is a continuous process and includes input from staff meetings, debriefs, and casual check-ins. Spring semester evaluations include self-assessments, supervisor input, and possible resident feedback.
Dismissal
If performance expectations are not met, supervisors may initiate a performance improvement plan. Continued issues or major misconduct may lead to dismissal. The RA position is a scholarship role and can be ended by either party at any time, with or without cause or notice. Dismissals are documented by the Director of Residence Life, and dismissed RAs may be reassigned to different housing.
Academic Requirements
RAs must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. GPA checks occur at the end of each semester. Falling below the 2.5 cumulative GPA may result in termination, while a semester GPA under 2.5 (with a cumulative GPA still above the threshold) triggers an academic reminder.
