When you are completing your street based engagement, not everyone has time for a full blown interview or conversation. Even one word answers to some of these conversation starters will help you build a picture.
Use this document to start building your own list of starters.
If you can write out on a board people's answers as they contirbute it helps them to see and connect other people's views too.
The versitility of these are great, you can complete these in person with people or ask your allies to complete in their services.
Make them online with Microsoft Forms and you have an instant analysis and visuals on responses.
Consider taking out some recording equipment with you or plan in time / space to take good notes after.
Interviews enable people to feel heard on their individual views.

Use this tool to help plan completing a walking tour with residents so they can help you understand the behaviours common in the area and how people experience it day to day.
"A photo speaks a thousand words"
Have to hand your smart phone to take pictures and develop your materials to advocate for change. Use Padlet to upload the pictures to where you have taken them to develop an interactive map.
Using observation as a research method can help identify some good understanding of a community. Plan the times you complete observations according to residents guidance and complete this with residents too.
Remember good note taking will increase the quality of your evidence and analysis.
