About Reins of Change

Reins of Change is all about helping children learn, grow and build confidence through hands-on experiences with ponies.

Our sessions are completely non-ridden, giving children the opportunity to spend time with ponies, learn practical skills and develop their knowledge without the pressure of having to ride.

Through grooming, handling, groundwork, pony care and practical activities, children can develop confidence, responsibility, communication and independence while learning in a friendly and supportive environment.

We believe there is so much more to ponies than riding. Sometimes the greatest confidence, connection and learning happens simply by working alongside them. 💜

Meet Clare

Reins of Change is led by Clare Williams, an experienced equestrian coach with more than 20 years of experience working with horses and teaching children and adults of all ages and abilities.

Clare has been involved with The Pony Club for many years, teaching Pony Club members and supporting young people as they develop their knowledge and practical horsemanship skills. She is also a Pony Club B Test assessor, giving her extensive experience of the standards and knowledge children work towards as they progress through Pony Club.

Clare previously worked as an equine instructor at Coleg Cambria, teaching and assessing students from entry level through to advanced equine qualifications and helping students prepare for British Horse Society examinations.

Alongside her teaching career, Clare has worked extensively as a freelance instructor, coaching riders from complete beginners through to experienced combinations. She also has a strong competition background of her own, with eventing being her main passion and having competed up to BE Intermediate Novice level.

This combination of teaching, coaching, assessing, competition experience and practical horsemanship is at the heart of Reins of Change — creating a place where children can learn, develop their skills and grow in confidence while enjoying time with ponies.

Qualifications & Safety

Clare holds a range of professional equestrian qualifications and maintains the appropriate training and checks required for working safely with children and young people.

Safety, welfare and safeguarding are at the heart of everything we do at Reins of Change.

Our Approach

Every child is different, and we believe they should be given the time and space to learn in a way that works for them.

Our sessions are hands-on, supportive and encouraging, with activities adapted to suit different ages, abilities and levels of experience. Children are encouraged to have a go, ask questions, make mistakes and learn by doing.
