AYSO Core and AYSO United operate separate but aligned referee programs in Davis. The programs require different training certifications but offer mentorship, community, and fun in the AYSO fun, family-friendly environment
AYSO Core is the recreational division of AYSO in Davis. Referees with Core enjoy volunteering, gain experience, and love seeing the start of the love for the game in thousands of Davis kids.
AYSO United is the competitive "club soccer" division of AYSO in Davis. Referees with United are paid to officiate high-level games that may require more advanced game management skills.
AYSO 6U-8U: If your child plays AYSO Core in the 6U/8U age groups and you want the minimum training needed to referee these games, this is the badge to get. Consider going for the AYSO Regional badge NOW if you think your child will play 10U+ soccer; it will save you time down the road and still allows you to referee these age groups.
AYSO Regional: If you have a child playing AYSO Core and they are just starting out, this badge is the one to get! It is free and gives you all the training you need to start taking the field with them. Youth referees may get this badge and may referee games for players who are at least 2 years younger.
USSF Grassroots: Adults should consider getting this badge if they are enjoying refereeing and want to get paid for it. For youth aged 13+, we recommend getting this badge and then cross-certifying to obtain an AYSO Regional badge. If you are a current AYSO intermediate referee, you can cross-certify to obtain the USSF badge. If you are a current regional referee, it is easier to just take the USSF Grassroots course. This badge costs $75-$105 to obtain but then you can referee paid club games at an average of $50/game.
There are other badges in both the AYSO and USSF pathways. Please email us once you have completed your introductory badge (AYSO Regional or USSF grassroots) and have worked a few games, and we can provide more guidance on how to proceed.
Games take place on Saturdays and Sundays from September to November (fall season), and Feburary to May (spring season).
For AYSO Core games, make sure you are set up in Ref Scheduler and sign-in to self-assign games.
For AYSO United games, go to Game Assignment. Refer to the prioritization list to understand how the Assignor chooses who works which games.
There is a tab in Game Officials that is called "Open Games". ANY referee is able to see ALL open assignments regardless of their ratings.
Here is a shortcut:
Log into Game Officials
Look at your "Personal Info"
Locate "Open Games" and click on it
Adjust the filter for only the week that you are interested.
You should be able to see all the games that are OPEN.
If you do not see these games when you try to self-assign then your rating is not high enough BUT you could request any game that you like and the assignors will be able to assign you the game if we feel that you could handle it.
