Characteristic 4

Promote data-driven decision making that reflects clinical scholarship, cultural responsiveness, and ethical and professional values in the prevention, management, evaluation, and dissemination of patient/family-centered and population-based care within complex healthcare environments.

My DNP project (NUSC 7411, 7412, 7413) is the culmination of my three years in this program as it reflects clinical scholarship using data driven decision making.  I developed a tool in the clinic EHR that was based upon evidence from the 2017 American Diabetes Association standards of care.  Implementation of this project consisted of developing a diabetes documentation template in Practice Fusion that captured key items, as outlined by the ADA, that guided student inter professional tea, down a care path for success in the care of diabetes patients seen in the clinic.  This ensured the students asked and assessed items the ADA deemed as proven to lead to better tracking and outcomes for this patient population.  The patient population seen at the clinic is culturally different in many ways than those in the community where the clinic is located.  It is important that key cultural information is collected to ensure the proper care is rendered.

I plan to disseminate my project, if chosen, at the 2018 AR Research Nursing Conference in April and I plan to submit my DNP project manuscript to a nursing journal.
