Characteristic 3

Apply science-based theories, principles of strategic planning, financial forecasting resource management, and healthcare information systems analytics to develop, implement, and evaluate effective health programs that will improve the quality of healthcare delivery at the practice, organizational, or systems level.

One of the things I enjoyed most was NUSC 7013 Healthcare Resource and Project Planning.  Developing a project based off a need and pulling it all together is one of the things I enjoy most.  For me, it is having an idea and then seeing the idea come to life.  When done the right way, you can determine if a project should move forward based off benefits and costs.  Some ideas can be cost prohibitive and we need to be aware of those situations because if we embark on it and fail, it could keep us from moving forward on something else that is needed.  Another key take away is there has to be a need.  If no one is buying what you are saying then no need to produce it so to speak. Strategic planning was used as I developed my business plan for a critical care analytics dashboard, in NUSC 7211 Quality Outcomes Management with my proposal for an influenza vaccination surveillance program and in our group project in NUSC 7003 Leading and Managing Complex Health Systems with our plan for increased education and screening of colorectal cancer in the minority, rural, and underserved populations in Arkansas.

I feel that I have also demonstrated these skills by developing, implementing, and evaluating my DNP project.
