INTRODUCTION
This project was developed as part of an AI-Assisted Design Development exercise, exploring how artificial intelligence can support architectural thinking while maintaining the importance of human judgement in the design process. The assignment required students to critically evaluate an existing design proposal, identify opportunities for improvement through AI-driven analysis, and develop an enhanced architectural solution.
The original proposal focused on creating a peaceful artist studio retreat for Claude Monet and his wife in the mangrove landscape of Port Dickson, Malaysia. Inspired by Monet’s appreciation of nature, light, and observation, the design emphasized calmness, companionship, soft daylight, and a strong connection to the surrounding environment.
Through the use of AI tools and human evaluation, the project was further developed by strengthening the relationship between architecture, daylight, water reflection, and environmental performance. The design evolution focused on improving passive comfort, enhancing the experience of natural light and reflection, and creating a deeper integration between the retreat and its tropical mangrove setting while preserving the original concept and emotional narrative.
