Red Wolves are medium sized canids. Their sized range between a Grey Wolf and a Coyote. They are close to 4 feet long and 26 inches tall at the shoulder. The average weight for a male is 60 pounds and a female is 50 pounds.
The Red Wolf is native to the Southeastern part of the United States. At one point in time they lived from Texas to central Pennsylvania. Today however Red Wolves can only be found in North Carolina.
Due to habitat loss and predator control this animal at one point was considered extinct. Due to a reintroduction program the Red Wolf was able to be released back into the wild in 1987.
