At Mountain View POA's & Stable Inn, our instructors are passionate about helping riders of all ages and experience levels develop confidence, horsemanship, and lasting partnerships with horses. Whether you're stepping into the saddle for the very first time or refining advanced riding skills, our team is dedicated to creating a safe, encouraging, and enjoyable learning environment where every rider can succeed.

Our instructors believe that riding is about much more than simply learning to steer or stop a horse. It's about understanding horse behavior, developing clear communication, building trust, and creating a partnership that lasts a lifetime. Every lesson is tailored to the individual rider's goals, allowing students to progress at their own pace while building a solid foundation of correct horsemanship.

About Katie

Katie Crane's passion for horses began almost as soon as she could walk. Born into an equestrian family in the early 1980s, she was raised around horses by her mother, an accomplished AQHA breeder. It wasn't long before Katie found her own calling in the horse industry, beginning a lifelong journey dedicated to breeding, training, showing, and teaching.

For decades, Katie has actively competed in multiple breed associations, including AQHA, APHA, ApHC, PtHA, POAC, and ASPC/AMHR. As a one-woman breeding and show program, she has successfully bred, raised, fitted, trained, and exhibited her own horses from birth through competition. Her home-raised foals have earned Champion titles, prize money, and top placings at prestigious futurity events such as Best in the West and Triple Crown Futurities. Every accomplishment represents countless hours of dedication, horsemanship, and an unwavering commitment to developing quality horses from the ground up.

With more than 20 years of teaching experience, Katie has helped riders of all ages—from Tiny Tots to adults—build confidence, knowledge, and lasting partnerships with their horses. Her lesson program is designed to meet each rider where they are, whether they are stepping into the saddle for the first time or advancing their skills for the show ring.

Beyond teaching, Katie has extensive experience managing boarding facilities and breeding programs. She worked as a veterinary and laboratory technician at Northwest Mare Services under the guidance of respected horseman Gary Martin, where she gained valuable hands-on experience in equine reproduction, mare management, foaling, and breeding operations. Those experiences helped shape the breeding program she continues to manage today, overseeing her own stallions, broodmares, and foals while producing quality horses with exceptional minds and athletic ability.

One of Katie's proudest accomplishments was raising and selling one of her outstanding APHA fillies overseas to Belgium. The filly, sired by the legendary stallion Lopin Lazy, showcased the quality and dedication behind Katie's breeding program.

When she's not teaching or working with young horses, Katie enjoys trail riding and camping throughout the Pacific Northwest. She believes spending time on the trails benefits both horse and rider by building confidence, strengthening partnerships, and providing a peaceful escape from everyday life.

Outside the equine world, Katie is the owner of Crane's Coop, an established poultry breeding program, and serves as a 4-H poultry leader, helping young exhibitors develop knowledge, responsibility, and confidence. She also enjoys raising buffalo and exotic African cats, reflecting her lifelong passion for caring for animals.

Katie is first and foremost a proud wife and mother of four amazing children. Alongside her family, she owns and operates Stable Inn and Stable House Inn, where her commitment to hospitality has earned multiple industry recognitions, including Airbnb Superhost, VRBO Premier Host, Houfy Superhost, and Airbnb Experiences Superhost status.

Whether you're taking your very first riding lesson, preparing for the show ring, learning to drive horses, or simply hoping to build a stronger partnership with your equine companion, Katie is passionate about helping every rider reach their goals.

About Tema

Tema Sullivan is an equine instructor at Stable INN & Mountain View POA's, where she enjoys sharing her passion and love of horses with riders of all ages—from Tiny Tots to teens and adults. She believes the connection between humans and horses is truly special and recognizes the healing, confidence, and joy that can come from spending time with these incredible animals.

With an extensive equine background, Tema has developed a strong understanding of equine anatomy, muscle structure, skeletal alignment, movement, and overall body mechanics. She is currently working toward her certification in Equine Massage Therapy, further expanding her knowledge to better support the health, comfort, and performance of the horses she works with. Her ability to recognize how a horse is feeling from day to day allows her to thoughtfully adapt each lesson to meet the needs of both horse and rider.

Tema believes that exceptional horsemanship is built on trust, communication, patience, and understanding. She has a natural gift for helping riders develop meaningful partnerships with their horses by creating a calm, safe, and encouraging learning environment. Whether students are learning on the ground or in the saddle, Tema focuses on building confidence, developing effective communication, and creating positive experiences that strengthen the bond between horse and rider.

Outside of instructing, Tema enjoys exploring new equestrian disciplines and is excited to continue expanding her own riding experience through future competitions. She also loves spending time outdoors, exploring the beautiful trails of Central Oregon on horseback, hiking with her family, gardening, baking homemade sourdough bread, and caring for her animals.

Tema is a valued member of the Stable INN & Mountain View POA's family, and we are grateful to have her as part of our lesson program.
