Nowadays, there are a variety of paper products - toilet paper, newspaper, books, paper currency - leads to an increasing demands of the barks. Trees are therefore cutting down for manufacturing these products. According to the data collected by the World Wide Fund for Nature (世界自然基金會), 13 million hectares of trees are cut down each year, about 100 species disappear every day. In other words, whenever we buy a paper product, we have consumed countless natural resources that causes deforestation.

Moreover, according to the president of Hong Kong Environmental Protection Practitioners Assonciation Limited(香港環保從業總會). Hong Kong process 70,000 to 80,000 tons of waste paper every month. All these waste paper are reusable and can be remade. Re-discovering Science and Civilisation of China reminds us the origin of Chinese paper-making. In short, ancient chinese tend to use the bark, rags and fishing nets to produce paper since it is the cheapest natural material they can get in their daily life. Now, these "cheapest natural material" becomes the priceless consumption we can no longer recover.
