You may be asking yourself, what are scholarships? In short, scholarships are free money for college! Scholarships are typically awarded based on academics, community involvement, personal attributes, etc., and do NOT have to be paid back. Apply for as many scholarships as possible! This is FREE money for you to use to pursue your education!!
Below we have provided a list of scholarships to get you started! Make sure to read the description to see if you qualify and what materials you need to apply. This is NOT an exhaustive list, so feel free to keep searching for more scholarships!
The NC Assist $1,000 No Essay Scholarship is a monthly sweepstakes where one participant is randomly chosen to receive a $1,000 scholarship. Just complete the form to enter and consider participating each month for additional chances to win

The NC Reach Scholarships are designed to support children formerly in foster care as they pursue a college education.
Deadline: Rolling deadline
Eligibility Requirements:
Have either been adopted from NC Division of Social Services (DSS) foster care after the age of 12, or aged out of NC DSS foster care at the age of 18 (must have been in care on their 18th birthday)
Be an NC resident for tuition purposes
Be attending one of the 16 UNC System schools in the Fall 2024 semester

The Next NC Scholarship combines the federal Pell Grant with state-funded financial aid to provide at least $3,000 for full-time enrollment at any of the 58 North Carolina community colleges or at least $5,000 at any of the 16 North Carolina four-year public universities if you have an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) no greater than $80,000 and a Student Aid Index (SAI) no greater than 7,500. Students with the greatest need for financial aid could qualify for even more funding.
Deadline: June 1 for UNC Institutions, August 15 for Community Colleges
Eligibility Requirements:
Be a North Carolina resident as defined by North Carolina Residency Manual
Enroll for at least 6 credit hours
Be admitted, enrolled, and classified as an undergraduate student in matriculated status in a degree, certificate, or diploma program at one of the 16 institutions of The University of North Carolina or at a North Carolina Community College

The Great Minds in STEM (GMiS) Scholarships range in amounts from $500 - $5,000 and are designed to support students looking to pursue a degree in STEM.
Deadline: April 30, 2024
Eligibility Requirements:
Must demonstrate merit through academic achievements, leadership and campus/community events
Must be pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering or math
Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
Be of Hispanic descent and/or must demonstrate leadership or service within the underserved community

Students eligible for the ROB Foundation Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
Currently a high school senior OR currently attending a college/university/trade school with at least one full academic year remaining.
Student must have at least one deceased parent or primary legal guardian.
Student must be a resident of North Carolina or South Carolina. For students already in college, you must have a parent or guardian residing in one of these states.
Required documentation must be attached to the application, including a Student Reflection essay, one Letter of Recommendation, a high school transcript, and, for those in college/university/trade school, a current school transcript, and proof of death.

Every year, Let Grow asks U.S. high school seniors to think about the importance of independence, curiosity, and open-mindedness in their everyday lives. This year, we are increasing our award amounts! We will award an $8,000 scholarship to the Grand Prize Winner, and $2,000 each to three Runners-Up.
This is the simplest scholarship anyone can apply for, and our awards can be used for traditional university, community college, or trade school.
Since launching in 2018 we have received over 33,000 entries and awarded $57,000 in college scholarships.
This scholarship will close once it receives 5000 applications.

The Billy Jones Memorial Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship designed to assist the children of active linemen interested in pursuing a college education. Students who apply for this scholarship are not required to want to pursue a career as a lineman, but instead just need to be the child of an active duty lineman.

Be a permanent resident of North Carolina
Have completed the FAFSA form
Be a high school senior
Have completed the application for this scholarship
Be enrolled full-time
Provide a copy of your high school transcript
Demonstrate financial need
