Are at least 17 years of age or older.
Are currently engaging in regular endurance training, 3 or more times per week.
Have previously completed a cycling race on Zwift. This ensures a baseline of fitness and perfomance.
Are currently able to participate in Zwift workouts.
This means you have an active account on Zwift, and the appropriate equipment to complete a workout on the platform (i.e., a smart indoor trainer, or a classic trainer paired with a power meter). Both key workouts will take place on Zwift, which must be able to accurately record your power output during the workouts.
Have previously completed a Functional Threshold Power (FTP) test on Zwift. This includes any of the four types of FTP tests available on Zwift.
Own a functioning smartphone they can use to download the study app – SEMA3.
Wifi or data is required to log in to the SEMA3 app, but once the study begins no further wifi or data is required to participate in the study.
The SEMA3 app is not available for download on certain Android phones. If your app store says that "SEMA3" is unavailable for download, just let us know — we have a back-up app available for these phones.
Are willing to share their training during the study.
Instead of asking participants to manually record and share all their workout details, we use TrainingPeaks to automatically sync and share workout details, only for the duration of the study.
Participants must either have an existing TrainingPeaks account, or they can sign up for a free account.
Participants must also connect their account with the study's Coach account for the duration of the study. This will allow the lead researcher to record summary details about workouts during the study.
If you do not (a) have a TrainingPeaks account, or (b) want to connect your account with ours, not a problem! We have a procedure to help you download and share your Zwift workout files with us for the two key workouts.
