Yonder Over Canaan

Written by Sid Griffin and Pat McGarvey

Late Sunday evening when the sun goes down

Breeze starts singing to a lonesome sound

Five piece band made of twenty seven strings

Put a smile on a statue if it heard them sing

Yonder over Canaan lie The Blue Sky Boys

Playing bluegrass wearing corduroy

High as the steeple of the chapel on the hill

Picked like the dickens when they play a fill

Picked like the devil on a gospel song

Notes are coming fast but they never come wrong

Tenor take the lead with the bass underneath

Four part harmony is what they preach

Yonder over Canaan lie The Blue Sky Boys

Playing bluegrass wearing corduroy

High as the steeple of the chapel on the hill

Picked like the dickens when they play a fill

Forty years on the road forty days forty nights

They whittled their sound 'til they got it right

Late one night on a two lane road

They bought God's grace

Now they'll never grow old

The Lord loves his neighbours and he favours grace

Each of his children has a special place

Who played on earth as a five piece band

Sounds through the Heavens with His helping hand

Yonder over Canaan lie The Blue Sky Boys

Playing bluegrass wearing corduroy

High as the steeple of the chapel on the hill

Picked like the dickens when they play God's will

Yonder over Canaan lie The Blue Sky Boys

Playing bluegrass wearing corduroy

High as the steeple of the chapel on the hill

Picked like the dickens when they play God's will
