This plan was created during one of my special education courses where a functional behavioral assessment (FBA) was created for a pretend student who has an emotional/behavioral disorder. In addition to the FBA, there was an ABC observation form along with a behavioral intervention plan (BIP) that was created in the same document. While writing this FBA, I grew to understanding the "principles of and strategies for effective classroom and behavior management;" (4A). In this behavior plan, I was able to work on creating a plan to help me "understand factors (e.g., self-efficacy, positive social interaction) that influence motivation and engagement;" (4D). In order to create an effective FBA, I had to know "how to assess the instructional environment to determine how best to meet a student's individual needs;" (4E) and understand "laws, rules, and ethical considerations regarding behavior intervention planning and behavior management (e.g., bullying, crisis intervention, physical restraint);" (4F). To improve the said student's behavior in this plan I had to "know strategies to implement behavior management and behavior intervention planning to ensure a safe and productive learning environment;" (4G). One goal for me as a teacher for this assignment was to understand "the use of student data (formative and summative) to design and implement behavior management strategies." (4H). The FBA that was designed allowed me to learn how to "use a variety of effective behavioral management techniques appropriate to the needs of all students that include positive behavior interventions and supports;" (4O) due to behavior interventions being the main target of this plan. I also had to focus and understand how to "analyze student behavior data to develop and support positive behavior." (4P) in order to best support the student and minimize undesired negative behaviors that was causing the student to not be able to thrive to the best of their ability.
For the classroom management plan, I was assigned to describe how my classroom would be, what strategies I would use to create routines & procedures, and how I would manage rewards & consequences with my students. While considering my ideal and most practical classroom, I had to work to create "clear expectations and procedures for communication and behavior and a physical setting conductive to achieving classroom goals;" (4J). I also grew to understand how to "use strategies to create a smoothly functioning learning community in which students assume responsibility for themselves and one another, participate in decision-making, working collaboratively and independently, use appropriate technology, and engage in purposeful learning activities;" (4K). While creating this classroom management plan, I had to determine what would contribute to creating a positive environment that "enhances cultural and linguistic responsiveness, mutual respect, positive social relationships, student motivation, and classroom engagement;" (4L). I also had to consider how I wanted to keep students engaged and motivated so I had to grow in my understanding of "engaging students in and monitoring individual and group-learning activities that help them develop the motivation to learn;" (4N).
In addition to my written classroom management plan, I had to create a room arrangement map of what I would want my classroom to look like. For this portion, I had to grow to understand "how individuals influence groups and how groups function in society;" (4B) and "how to help students work cooperatively and productively in groups;" (4C). My main goal for my arrangement of my classroom was to "create a safe and healthy environment that maximizes student learning;" (4I) which is why I aimed to have students working collaboratively while creating a space for students to decompress and sit flexibly. I aimed to grow in my understanding of how to "organize, allocate, and manage time, materials, technology, and physical space to provide active and equitable engagement of students in productive learning activities;" (4M). I also kept in mind the wide range of diverse students that I will most likely have so while planning, I grew in my understanding on how to "modify the learning environment (including the schedule and physical arrangement) to facilitate appropriate behaviors and learning for students with diverse learning characteristics;" (4P).
