Welcome to CALAMITY, a Tabletop Roleplay System built around redefining the traditional formula of ttrpg design.
in calamity, seekers, the ones who control the characters, are guided by a "SEER", who acts as the game host.
both are players, the difference lies in the seer handling the mechanics, story, and overall telling of events to the others at the table while the seeker handles the interpretation and movement of the story, deciding where to go, what to focus on and how the story plays out.
IN CALAMITY, you will find:
- unique races, now called "Origins"
- a reconstruction of sub-races & backgrounds, now called "Variants & Genesis"
- the removal of traditional classes in favor of a modular progression system, dubbed "Aspects"

Proficiencies & Skills:
In many TTRPGs, characters possess a list of skills.
In CALAMITY, these are known as Sub-Attributes.
Sub-Attributes represent what a Seeker's character excels at;
Perception, investigation, athletics, persuasion, sleight of hand, and many others are great representation of Sub-Attributes.
However, proficiency in CALAMITY is not just a numerical bonus.
Each Sub-Attribute connects directly to a Proficiency Tier, and each tier grants:
Increased bonus to relevant rolls
A unique Proficiency Feature ( A small ability ) tied to that Sub-Attribute
And as your proficiency increases ( Talented -> Adept, -> Expert, -> Master ),
your character gains additional Proficiency Features that expand what they can actively do with that skill.
Rolls Within the System:
If you are familiar with rolling 1d20s in most tabletop systems, kudos to you, as the majority of outcomes in CALAMITY are determined using a d20.
Where CALAMITY diverges is in conflict resolution.
there is no static Armor Class, meaning in combat, Seekers don't roll against a fixed defense.
Instead, you roll an attack against a rolled defense from your opponent.
Every meaningful action is resisted.
If you strike, your opponent rolls to defend.
If you cast, your target rolls to resist.
If you attempt to overpower, they roll to endure.
Conflict is symmetrical, and though in some cases, you may roll against a static number, almost every outcome is decided by not one result, but multiple.
Origin's, Their Variants, & A Genesis:
Character identity in CALAMITY is structured in three layers:
Putting it together all together, a Seeker may create a character whose:
Origin is Elf, Variant is High Elf & Genesis is Thespian
Each layer contributes the following:
Proficiencies
Movement speeds
Unique Features
Structural abilities
Which overall, states that Identity in CALAMITY shapes mechanics
