Home > 6. Practice and experience
Nothing beats hands on experience to test your level of preparedness, your knowledge, your plans, and of course your gear.
So go out there and practise, practise, practise. Using realistic scenario as much as possible.
Make water filtration equipment. Turn a car generator and a lead acid battery into a mobile phone charging station. Join your local Search and Rescue team or become a volunteer firefighter. Camp in the woods in the middle of winter or jump in frigid water with all your clothes on. Smash a car window to retrieve a dummy passenger, boil water on a wood fire under the rain, build a shelter using branches, etc. All under supervision and with safety gear on, of course.
Experiencing in a safe and controlled environment will make it less scary when facing a similar event for real, so you will be less likely to fly or freeze.
