Home > 3. Community
"If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." – African proverb
Community provides security and strength. Often it is the difference between dying alone vs. surviving together. The following people and organisations might take care of you one day:
your family
your friends
your faith community
your neighbors
your colleagues
your local health clinics and hospitals
your local city's Emergency Management Department
national and international agencies, e.g. FEMA, United Nations Refugee Agency, etc.
non-governmental organisations (NGOs), eg. Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières, etc.
complete strangers.
A good way to build up and maintain a personal network is to be nice, cooperative, kind and helpful.
“Don’t do stupid things, with stupid people, at stupid places, at stupid times, with stupid gear.”
Are the people you currently hang out with all trustworthy, caring and ready to give you a hand? Or are they dubious, unreliable, without honor and decency? Dump them. Nothing to do with upholding moral standards; simply the easiest way to reduce the risks of you being beaten up, in jail, or dead.
"Joining an established group or forming your own MAG (Mutual Assistance Group) with others you trust is a critical step toward building a reliable support network." — source and more information.
