Our team began working on the OpenAirInterface (OAI) open-source project at EURECOM in 2017. Based on OAI software, we developed the world’s first open-source NB-IoT base station. In 2019, our team and EURECOM established the Joint NTUST–EURECOM Open5G Lab to develop open-source 5G base station software. In 2021, our team joined the O-RAN Software Community (OSC), an open-source project created by the O-RAN ALLIANCE and the Linux Foundation. We contribute to the development of O-DU Low and O-DU High software. We also work on the integration of the Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system and the RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC).
OSC has three community labs for software integration and testing. One of them is the OSC Asia Pacific Lab, jointly established in Taiwan by our team at NTUST and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). The other two labs are located on the East and West Coasts of the United States and were established by AT&T and China Mobile. The OSC Asia Pacific Lab mainly supports the integration of OSC open-source software. Fransiscus Bimo, a PhD student on our team and a long-term OSC contributor, was selected as the Project Technical Leader (PTL) of the OSC Integration and Testing Project (OSC INT) in 2024.
