The majority of powered boats will be electric. They fall into three main types, fast electrics, racing electric and scale model.
These boats are very fast, covering 200m in a few seconds. Impressive to watch with very high power motors and batteries. They are not usually raced but could do time trials over set distances. The run times are short as the high power and small size of the boats limits the battery size. The batteries can be fast charged and the club is equipped for charging them. Craft can be built from scratch or purchased ready to run. These are small kit built boats suitable for high speed racing. Whilst not as fast as the "fast" electrics they are challenging to race as the speed and manoeuvrability are very quick requiring good reflexes and anticipation to race well.Â
Club 500 is a low cost route into competitive fast electric racing. Rules are based on standard commercially available kits with few modification permitted. .https://www.mpba.org.uk/club-500-racing/
