Author of Simulation Techniques in Microwave Photonics Systems

Dr. Rangana Banerjee Chaudhuri is a Photonics Scientist and research & innovation programme professional with an international career spanning photonics R&D, European research programmes, semiconductor and photonics initiatives, technology development and researcher training. She currently serves as a Training Program Manager at Tyndall National Institute, Ireland providing strategic leadership and training development program management for Rinn Semiconductors, IPIC, PIADS and SPEAR projects.

Previously, Dr. Rangana served as a Senior Scientist and European Union Research Project Leader at the National Metrological Institute of Germany (PTB) in the Experimental Quantum Metrology division (January 2024 – December 2025). She was responsible for managing European Union project involving 12 partners as a Work package (WP) Leader of 4 WPs and developing experimental testbeds for the characterization of integrated nanophotonic components used in optical clocks, quantum computers, quantum sensors, and ion-trap systems. Earlier, she was a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow (October 2021–September 2023) and later a Research Fellow (October 2023–December 2023) at Dublin City University, Ireland. During this time, she worked on the development of optical frequency comb sources and the design of free-space optics and radio-over-fiber-based photonic transceivers for microwave, millimeter-wave, and terahertz (THz) applications. Earlier (2020–2021), she served as a Research Scientist at Lightmotif Automation Sensors and Systems Pvt. Ltd. (now part of Avirata Defense Systems under Sasmos Het Technologies Ltd.), India, where she focused on the design of photonics-based microwave and millimeter-wave systems. During this period, she was also granted a copyright for a Python/MATLAB-based OptiLink design framework for radio-over-fiber system modeling. Her earlier roles include Lecturer at Shree Agrasain College, Supervisor at the Centre for Applied Engineering and Research, and Trainer at the Institute of Industrial Automation and Embedded Systems, India.

Dr. Rangana holds an M.Sc. in Electronic Science, an M.Tech. in Radio Physics and Electronics (with specialization in Photonics), and a Ph.D. from the University of Calcutta, India. During her doctoral research, she was associated with CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI) and the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), India as a visiting researcher.
