Terahertz (THz) frequencies (from 0.1 THz to 10 THz) having larger available bandwidth compared to microwave systems can be a suitable technology for ultrahigh data rate wireless applications to overcome the spectrum scarcity at lower radio frequencies . FSO technology offers the advantages of spectrum use without a license, high data rate and security, lower costs, full-duplex connection, protocol transparency, and infrastructure flexibility.  Moreover, bidirectional links with optical fiber comes with a drawback of nonlinear back scattering effects. A potential way to solve this issue can be using FSO as a channel between the central office and the remote radio head (RRH). 

My research in this area is to demonstrate development of a photonic based sub-THz transceiver to be used in RRH where both the single mode fiber based bidirectional link and FSO based links are considered. Here, I tried to focus on the differences between the two channels to draw a comparative analysis between them in terms of nonlinear fiber scattering effects. 

Investigation on the effects of various impairments in case of  both the channels is also a part of my research in this area.
