HISTORY
From its inception in 2015 Meetup Birmingham LGBT+ Social (Rainbow Connections) was privately funded. We now ask that each regular meetup event organiser and community group advertising with us, makes an annual donation to meet the running costs. In most cases this will be funded by asking for a small donation annually from members attending an event.
WHY DO WE NEED FINANCE
Every contribution helps us to maintain the Meetup Group and website.
With nearly 5,500 members, we want to ensure that Rainbow Connections continues to work for the LGBT+ community in and around Birmingham. We want to ensure that our social events are free from mandatory charging and therefore to provide inclusivity for all. However, being on the Meetup platform costs money and our website charges domain fees each year.
Our steering group members meet on a voluntary basis, at regular intervals throughout the year to discuss issues, concerns and plan future social events. The committee currently pay their own travel costs to meet together.
MEMBERS
Meetup Birmingham LGBTQ+ Social (Rainbow Connections) requires your help when it comes to funding. The Meetup fees are approximately £200.00 per year dependent on the exchange rate at the time, payable in two payments in February and August, and this is going up (we think because of our growing membership). We ask that the organisers of the groups you attend do a whip round once a year. Of course, if you have missed this whip round, we welcome donations at any time and these are our bank details.
