Final Message

Producer/Project Lead

10/21-03/23

Pitch

Final Message is a 2D Pixel Platformer developed by Forged Studios. A knight and a dog embark on a journey that many others take to reach the top of Mount Arar, the highest peak in the world, to leave their final message.

Meet the Team

I pitched the concept of Final Message with a series of concept illustrations to excite game developers to join the project, after which I was able to build a group of 12 to turn the project into a reality. I took the role of Producer and Project Lead and led the project from start to finish using agile scrum methodologies.

What Did I Do?

My main roles in this project included taking care of all task tracking, leading weekly team meetings, creating scrum sheets using a 2-week sprint process, as well as ensuring that all departments were on track and maintaining clear communication inside and outside of the team. I was responsible for:

1) Leading a team of 12 developers from ideation to delivery, ensuring on-time completion and team satisfaction.

2) Managing all tasks, and scrum sheets, and conducting regular team and departmental meetings to ensure that the project's vision was realized in the final product.

3) Organizing the creation of promotional materials and taking the initiative to build the company website, contributing to the project's marketing and online presence.

4) Acting as the main point of contact for the project, responding promptly to inquiries, resolving issues, and providing smooth communication between team members and stakeholders.

Deliverables Document (example)

Deliverables documents were used to outline all of the new content created in the last sprint in order to track the difference between goals, and actual progress. This allowed us to keep the project under a manageable scope, and ensure that the most important tasks were completed.

Scrum Document (Weekly Recap)

Weekly Recaps were used as documents where individuals could express their progress, their high points, as well as their low points during the week. This would allow team members, particularly myself, to know what problems/blockers are preventing progress, and to develop solutions to resolve them.

What Did I Learn?

This project allowed me to demonstrate my project management skills by creating scrum sheets using 2-week sprint schedules, tracking tasks through Google Sheets, Miro, and Trello, leading meetings on Discord and in-person, as well as ensuring that all team members were on track, and not overwhelmed. The greatest challenge I faced was deciding which mechanics we could implement, and which would be too ambitious. We had many discussions about additional mechanics that were part of the original pitch but were eventually taken out after careful consideration by both design and programming teams. I learned to take great care in what my teammates said and to coalesce feedback from the team into affirmative action that would tangibly better the final product. This allowed me to judge the concerns of my team members candidly and open-mindedly, and learn how to translate a plethora of feedback into an action plan that will help the project be completed.
