A pulse oximeter is a non-invasive medical device that measures the oxygen saturation of the blood, typically in the arterial blood. It does this by shining light through the skin and measuring how much light is absorbed by the blood, which is related to the amount of oxygen bound to hemoglobin. This information, along with the pulse rate, is displayed on the device.
