Installing Mod Update

There are a few ways we can dp this. If your mod (car/track/skinpack etc) was installed via Steam Workshop then it will be updated automatically. Downloaded while the game is not open and installed on next launch.

If your mod came as an *.rfcmp we can use the Mod Manager that comes with the game and can be found in your "rfactor 2/bin64/" folder. Look for the ModMgr.exe. Lastly we can use the ingame content manager.

I will show you how to update an existing mod with the Mod Manager method first. For an explanation about the app, check out my previous tutorial Installing Mods.

Mod Manager

A mod update will be the same type of file as the main mod *.rfcmp. Consider it like a patch for the existing car/track.

Put the update in your packages folder (or your mod download folder). Whichever you choose just make sure you choose it in the bottom right corner of the app by pressing the B or select from the drop down if you have added it previously..

If a car/track is installed that detects an update, it will appear in BOLD and state Update Available in the status column.

For example I have made a little update for the SRHF1_RedBullRing track.

Check the dropdown in the bottom left next to Updates and you will see what the patch in named.

You may also see that the install button is greyed out but the Update button is now active. Now press Update.

The track will change it's version number to the one stated on the patch as you can see in the picture right.

Uninstalling patches and mods is just like peeling an onion. Uninstalling will take away patches first, then the main mod.

In Game Content Manager

With the ingame Content Installer (click "Content & Settings - Manage Content) patches don't appear too different from the main mods.

Your patch will have to be in the packages folder to get detected. You can put a search term in the search box to find your track and patch, note the version numbers.

My original track is installed so it has a green tick, the patch is not so it has a red cross. Click the patch then press install 1 item on the right.
