Reflection

One of the positive features of digital media is that anyone can easily access it as long as they have an internet connection. My project takes advantage of this feature and addresses my chosen social challenge "Racial profiling in Japan" by promoting the dissemination of facts about discrimination against racial minorities in Japan, focusing on racial profiling. 

-The reason I prioritise acknowledgment of the issue.

 Although Japanese people are widely known for their kindness, discrimination against social minorities is dreadful. The root cause of the majority of discrimination happening in Japan is not the people's cruelty, but a lack of awareness about human rights. According to the research "Human Rights 2018" by Ipsos, only 18% of people answered that they know well about human rights. The number of school curriculums in Japan relating to human rights is extremely small and abstract. In my personal experience, I was only taught to think about other people's feelings and to be kind to others, which reflects the fact that discrimination is regarded as a matter of emotion in Japan. In terms of eliminating racial profiling in Japan, it is essential to gain awareness about racism/racial profiling for anyone living in Japan.
