Overview of the Racial Profiling happening in Japan
The results of the "2021 Questionnaire Survey on Job Questions (Racial Profiling) for People with Foreign Origins" survey by the Tokyo Bar Association, attached above, represent how serious the situation in Japan is. When looking at this data by ethnic origin, the top groups are those with ethnic roots that often look different from people with Northeast Asian roots: Latin America (83.5%), Africa (82.9%), and the Middle East (75.6%). However, people with Northeast Asian roots, with characteristics that make it hard to tell that they have foreign roots, accounted for the lowest percentage at 50%.

Approximately 70.3% of respondents to the survey said they had experienced feeling uncomfortable with the questions, and behaviour of police officers. In the free comments, a certain number of descriptions such as "rude attitude," "unpleasant," "unpleasant," "talkative," "overbearing," and "arrogant" are seen. Here are some comments explaining the experience. ※Trigger warning
"I was suspected of having drugs just because of my appearance. He was rough and rude the entire time, and suddenly made me take off my pants and look at what was underneath. It was insulting and discriminatory. It hurt my feelings very much. After confirming that I didn't have anything on me, he didn't even apologize and left me undressed. It was very rude and unbelievable for a police officer."
"I was very angry and saddened by what the Japanese police said to me. I was born and raised in Japan, but I was told, ``You foreigners should go back to your country. Go back to your country! Go back to your country with your family!" I replied that I was mentally exhausted to be given such awful comments, but the officer just laughed and made fun of me. I'm scared every time I see police officers. I wonder why Japan, the government, is allowing the police to do something like this."
