Hi there! My name is Rachel Cobb and I am currently a sophomore at East Carolina University, a Centennial Fellow in the Honors College, majoring in Elementary Education with concentrations in reading and social studies. I am a Maynard scholar in the Education Community of Scholars and a peer mentor for the current freshmen in the Education Living-Learning Community and Community of Scholars. I am part of FUSE college ministry, both in the whole-group and small group Bible study settings. I tutor at Pirate P.A.L.S., an after-school program through the Police Athletic League that serves and mentors at-risk children in the Greenville area, and I work in the Office of Clinical Experiences within the College of Education.
I am from Wilson, North Carolina and I plan to return to my home county to teach after I graduate. I am an only child but I have an eleven-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Zeke who I have had since he was twelve weeks old and who has my whole heart.
I chose to pursue a career in Elementary Education because I love mentoring and forming nurturing relationships with young children and I love everything to do with school and learning, so these two passions added up to a career in teaching elementary school. My best employment experiences as a teenager were babysitting and tutoring, and my practicum experiences at ECU have solidified my decision to become an educator.
