Getting Online

In order to be successful in RAAM/RAW you need internet access. All race updates and Timestation Check-Ins are online. Many of you have data plans with your cell service or you have your own hotspots to take care of this. However, if you need to save on data or want a different source for wifi, please be aware that there are literally thousands of free wifi hotspots across the nation. Here are few that are pretty easy to access and usually reliable.

McDonalds Restaurants - You can access the Internet at more than 11,500 participating restaurants with Wi-Fi, always free of charge. So grab a soda or food and log in. McDonalds is often open 24 hours a day. Find a McDonald’s near you.

Starbucks Coffee - Starbucks almost always has free wifi but they are seldom located in smaller towns, except in grocery stores. They open early usually but after 9:00 pm they often close. Their wifi is pretty fast though compared to other places. https://www.starbucks.com/store-locator?map=39.635307,-101.337891,5z

Other Restaurants that normally have free WiFi are:

  • Arby’s
  • Chick Fil A
  • Fuddruckers
  • Panera Bread
  • Buffalo Wild Wings
  • Dunkin Donuts

Retailers that offer open and free wifi are:

  • Kohls
  • Target
  • Michael’s
  • Macy’s
  • Best Buy
  • Lowe’s

Literally, everyone of the suggestions above have phone apps that will help you locate them based on the location of your phone. Often, even at night if you are close to the building you can pick up the wifi - but be respectful and aware that sitting in front of a closed business in the middle of the night might draw attention from law-enforcement so please think before you park and wander around during non-business hours.

Hotels:

Hotel oftenoffer free wifi in the public areas or if you have a crew member staying in one they can take advantagee.

Pubic Spaces and Local Businesses:

Normally, places like public libraries have free wifi. Additionally, almost every coffee house/cafe seems to have free wifi for those who buy something. Ask them if they do and what the password is. It is always nice to show local businesses so love as you pass through towns and villages!
